LANEY DREAMS
An artist creating traditional media art and showcasing the process through digital media.
I am the owner and creator of this brand and responsible for all digital materials. I am the also the chief designer behind all branding materials for this brand from logos, banners, title cards, documents of authenticity, etc.
Artist
I have been creating traditional media artwork since I was a child. When I was 7, I picked up the pencil with the intention of becoming the “best drawer in the world”. Though I have not achieved as tall of an order as that, I’ve grown exponentially in my drawing skills over the past 18 years and have ventured mightily into color mediums, such as oil paint.
Challenges
Though I’ve grown in my traditional media art skills on one hand and as photographer/videographer/digital designer on the other, it’s been quite the struggle to consolidate both of those disciplines into one coherent and authentic brands.
Brand How+Why
In 2023 I decided to call my brand “Laney Dreams”, “Laney” being the name my friends and family call me, and “Dreams”, derived one part from my desire to become a true renowned artist with a powerful body of work, one part as a call to my Christian faith, surrendering my earthly dreams to God and His will throughout the painstaking process.
Aesthetic and Symbolism
The “dreams” aesthetic manifests as the standard whimsical nighttime imagery; moons, stars, and clouds, these elements being hand-drawn / hand-painted in both traditional media and digitally in Procreate. The lambs are a call-back to the “counting sheep” to fall asleep motif aligning with the dreams and sleep themes, but also as a reference to the symbolism of the lamb in the Christian bible. To submit myself as a “lamb” in God’s presence is to declare God my shepherd, the One I put my faith, identity, and comfort into. As difficult as living for Christ is and as much as I’ve failed, I dedicate this “brand” and all the works of my hands to Christ for His glory.
